In my first year as a writer, I took on hundreds of projects as I tried to find my place in the industry, but it wasn’t long before my high-volume workload began to take its toll.
When I tried to bump my rates, I was disheartened to be met with arguments and refusals. That’s when I realized I hadn’t been building a business. I was stuck on a hamster wheel with no end in sight.
In the months to come, I worked nonstop to replace my commodity clients with businesses who cared about quality and were willing to pay for my talent. Eventually, my zeal for writing returned, and it was all thanks to a few writers who helped me reach for the next rung.
I founded the Society of Writers because I want every freelancer to have the support they need to achieve their goals. If you’re looking for a community that’s honest, empathetic, and unselfish, you’ve found your place!

Our community is filled with freelance writers who want to lift each other up. You’ll get invaluable advice on finding clients, setting your prices, managing projects, and building a thriving writing business.
Our members come from all around the world, but posts must be made in English for moderation purposes. Membership is restricted to individuals over the age of 18. We reserve the right to remove an individual from the community for any reason.
You can join our community for free! There are no trial periods, hidden fees, or upsells. The community is open to all freelance writers who are excited to grow and ready to share their advice.
We have a few simple rules in the community that boil down to basic etiquette. Respect everyone equally, be honest about your journey, and remember that everyone, including you, has unique value to offer (so hear them out).
We occasionally accept sponsorships from businesses who would like to offer complimentary memberships, training, or products to our members. Please email inquiries@societyofwriters.com to learn more.
If you have a writing project and need help filling it, please pass the info along to our team at inquiries@societyofwriters.com and we will share it with the community. Please note that we do not share projects paying less than 10 cents per word (bare minimum).
