Paid Writing Opportunities

April 12 - Calls for Pitches

This list gives you a direct link to editors who are looking for writers to cover a specific story/beat/angle. These opportunities pay more than your average writing project and you’ll end up with a byline on the publication’s website, which is great for building your portfolio! Here’s a look at the calls we rounded up this week…

Up to $300 for Contributions to Today's Parent

Bryce is looking to bring on 1-2 more regular commerce writers at Today’s Parent. Writers must have shopping content experience and ideally have the capacity to create 1-2 robust pieces per week. Send samples to bryce.gruber@stjoseph.com

$500 for Reported Stories at Barn Raising

Looking for stories on rural America, reported and opinion, covering many topics but two in particular this spring: libraries and transportation. Pitches can be sent to editorial@barnraisingmedia.com

$200 for Opinion Pieces at Barn Raising
Interested in the above opportunity but reporting isn’t for you? They’re also accepting opinion pieces on the same topics. Pitches can be sent to editorial@barnraisingmedia.com

$150 to $300 at Youth PAC

$100 at Open Secrets Magazine

$300 at Going
Katie is looking for pitches for a new food newsletter that Going is releasing. The piece will be around 800 words and pay starts at $300. She wants stories that deeply connect a food to a place and its people, history, culture, and traditions. Pitch here.

$200 to $300 at Current Affairs
Current Affairs greatly values sincerity, compassion, and conviction. They ask contributors to write about issues they genuinely care about and highly recommend that you look through the latest issue to get a feel for the magazine’s unique style before you make a submission. $200 for digital and $300 for print submissions. Pitch here.

$150+ at StyleCaster
StyleCaster is accepting pitches for SEO-driven evergreen lifestyle stories (dating, relationships, travel, beauty, fashion, LGBTQ+ culture, entertainment). They’re interested in unique angles that’ll cut through the noise. Pitch to Jonathan at jborge@stylecaster.com.
